Here at YuMOVE, we’re working hard every day to help dogs live more active lives for longer. And Glucosamine plays a major part in our mission. A natural component for healthy, mobile joints, it’s found in most dog joint supplements. If you’ve never heard of Glucosamine before, you’ll be clear on this miracle-working component and its many benefits once you’ve read through this guide…

Joint supplements for dogs

We love the energy of our canines, and watching them run, jump and play to their heart’s content is a joy for any dog owner. But as our furry best friends start to grow older, we often have to witness a decrease in energy, and deal with a common challenge – dog joint stiffness.

If you’ve noticed your pooch is having trouble getting around or getting up, is sleeping a lot more than usual, or has generally lost their lust for life a little, now’s the time to think about adding a joint supplement to his or her diet.

Glucosamine for dogs in joint supplements

Joint supplements – both human and canine – are designed to aid mobility and promote flexibility. Like any type of supplement, in order to be effective, they need to contain some powerful ingredients. One of these is Glucosamine.

What is Glucosamine and how is it produced

Glucosamine is a natural compound produced in the body. It’s made up of glucose and amino acids, and it’s vital for keeping everything around the joints nice and comfortable.

Scientists refer to Glucosamine as the Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) molecule, and consider it an essential part of synovial fluid and cartilage in the body. Together, these two components lubricate and cushion the joints, with the latter acting as a shock absorber, helping the bones to comfortably slide over one another. When all is working as it should, your pooch will have no problem tearing across a park or jumping up to catch a ball.

Puppies and adults produce plenty of Glucosamine, but, just like humans, as they age this naturally reduces. This can cause damage to the cartilage and stiffness in the joints, so it makes sense to top it up!

Joint supplements containing glucosamine for dogs are proven to be really effective, not just for older pooches but also for young, growing pups and active working adults. A lot of exercise can take its toll on a canine, and Glucosamine helps to support the joints as they work and help them to repair afterwards.

Joint supplements containing Glucosamine come in many different forms, including tablet, capsule, granule, chew and liquid. As a rule of thumb, we’d recommend sidestepping the liquid varieties, as these can be diluted down and are often less effective.

Glucosamine Sulphate vs Glucosamine HCl?

The most common form of Glucosamine is Glucosamine Sulphate, and this is what you’ll find in most dog joint supplements. At YuMOVE, we do things differently. Our clinically proven formula contains Glucosamine HCI – the purest form of Glucosamine out there.

We also use a different extraction method to many of our competitors, who get their Glucosamine from shellfish. This is harmful for the environment, so we opt a plant source of Glucosamine that’s fermented from corn. This method produces just 2% of the waste that shellfish production does, plus it’s Veggie and Vegan-friendly!

Of course, while Glucosamine deserves its spotlight when it comes to dog joint supplements, it works best when it’s blended with lots of other joint-soothing minerals. Our unique formula contains ingredients that target stiff joints in different ways. Along with Glucosamine HCI, there’s Manganese, Green Lipped Mussel, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamins C and E. Together, they work to aid the formation of cartilage, collagen and synovial fluid, and soothe and lubricate the joints.

Remember – a dog joint supplement is a brilliant addition for a more healthy and active lifestyle, but regular exercise and a nutritious diet will also help your canine live their best life, for longer.
