Guide to shopping safely & avoiding counterfeit supplements

At YuMOVE, your pet's wellbeing is our top priority. We work hard to ensure our ingredients and products undergo rigorous safety checks to uphold our high-quality standards and safeguard pet health.

Sadly, we’ve seen instances of counterfeit supplements being sold on marketplace platforms. As fellow pet owners, we understand how worrying this can be, especially as there are no guarantees these products have been through the meticulous safety protocols your pet deserves.

To help you shop with confidence, we’ve created this page to share the latest information on how to shop safely for your pet.

In November 2024, 3rd party sellers of YuMOVE were removed from Amazon to keep counterfeit goods out of circulation. We’re also part of Amazon’s transparency programme, which uses unique serial codes to ensure every item shipped to customers is authentic and accurate.

What should I do if I think I have counterfeit product?

If you think you have bought a counterfeit product, or are uncertain, we strongly advise you to stop feeding it to your dog. We recommend speaking to your vet if you have concerns about your dog’s health.

If you think you’ve seen or bought counterfeit YuMOVE, you can report it to us here.

What symptoms do I need to look out for?

We’re unable to advise on any signs and symptoms because any counterfeit products have not been manufactured by us. Therefore, we’re not familiar with the ingredients in them, or the quality control measures that they were subjected to.

If you suspect your pet has consumed a counterfeit product and is actively unwell, we recommend seeking advice from your vet right away.

What's in counterfeit products?

As these products are counterfeit and have not been made by YuMOVE manufacturers, we’re unable to advise on their ingredients or safety. We’re also unable to confirm that one pack of counterfeit product is the same as another, as ingredients may vary.

I’m concerned my dog may have experienced a reaction to a counterfeit product. What do I do?

If your pet is actively unwell, contact your vet right away for advice and support.

Advice on counterfeit supplements from the Veterinary Poisons Information Service

“Without knowing the ingredients in the counterfeit tablets, we cannot give specific advice however the risks are thought to be low. Animals who are not displaying signs of being unwell should be observed at home. Any animal showing clinical signs should be assessed by their vet and further tests considered (such as a general health profile) although it must be considered that the cause of the signs may be unrelated to the tablets.

“If owners are very concerned, they can contact Animal Poison Line on 01202 509000 (consultation fee applies) where they will be advised whether a vet visit is required. Vets can receive specific treatment advice on a case-by-case basis through the VPIS members service on 020 7305 5055.”

How much of a problem are counterfeit supplements?

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Warbey, from the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit at City of London Police, says:

“Counterfeit dog supplements, toys and leads pose a serious threat to both the safety of our pets and members of the public.

“These products aren’t manufactured to industry standards, so there’s a real risk that fake supplements are ineffective or contain harmful ingredients, while counterfeit toys can break and pose a choking hazard. Fake leads lack the strength of genuine products, meaning their use can lead to escapes or injuries.

“Counterfeiting these products demonstrates the lengths that criminals will go to make money and their disregard for public safety. We know that the offer of a good deal can be enticing, but it’s always important to buy from a reputable source.”
